Lars and The Real Girl

So not many people have heard of this movie, or at least that’s what I would figure as it just recently came out on video and was not in theaters. I went to the video store with my boyfriend this past weekend and of course neither of us could decide what movie we wanted to rent and then he remembers that one of his friends suggested this movie “Lars and the Real Girl.” She told him it was really good and that he and I should watch it. So I agreed and we brought it back to his house to watch. Well let me tell you, this was not a very great movie. The plot was a little too crazy for my liking. The summary of this plot is that a guy falls in love with a life size doll. Simple as that with a few other twists and turns. Lars the main character talks to the doll and believes it is real. The others in the town are willing to do what's best for Lars which is believing that the doll is real. The town does whatever they can to not hurt Lars. Throughout the movie this doll in a way changes the beliefs and thinking of that small town. Of course I believe this guy has a few mental problems, I mean not many people actually believe that a life-size doll is alive let alone fall in love with the doll. My boyfriend loved this movie, thinking it was amazing how this doll could bring together an entire town and get them to do what’s best for the people in the town. I guess you could say that this movie has a good moral and has great symbolism behind it, but I think that would be all this movie has going for it. The acting was just ok nothing too special though I do have to say that Ryan Gosling plays the main character Lars really well. He got me to believe he was crazy at least.

Despite this all this, I don’t think I would recommend this movie to anyone. However, if you’re looking for a long movie to kill time this would certainly be one I would suggest. It will definitely pass time, but unless you look for deep symbolic meanings behind movies then you will probably find it just as boring as I did. If you’re looking for a fun entertaining movie or a comedy watch something else. Also, the only well known actor in this movie was Ryan Gosling, the others were just mediocre actors reading their lines to mediocre to plot. I would not waste your money on this movie but then again that is just my opinion. I do know two people who happen to think this was an amazing movie but I would certainly have to disagree.

As always this is just my opinion. The image is taken from http://www.imdb.com/media/rm69703168/tt0805564. MLA Citation for this is

Prom Night

Hello once again. I know I haven't posted in almost a month but I've just been really busy. For most of you high schoolers prom it is once again Prom season. Worrying about the dress, the makeup and hair. For the guys it's more of where do we want to eat, how am I going to pay for this etc. However, Donna Kapel played by Brittany Snow in the movie prom night has not only to worry about having fun at her senior prom and making it be the best night of her life. This movie will definitely be a night she will remember forever. She had witnessed the murder of her family by a former teacher at her school who was in love with her. This former teacher recently escaped from a mental institution and is on the rampage to once again claim his love. He comes after her again, this time on the night of her senior prom. He finds her and stalks her doing anything he can do get to her and claim her once again. This thrilling suspenseful movie is sure to get almost any audience member to jump at least once.

The acting in this movie is ok, though it's not the highlight of this movie for sure. The acting is ok the part that makes it good though is it's ability to maintain the suspense even until the last scene. It's not like the grudge either where you sit there watching hardly understanding the plot and just jumping whenever something pops out from behind a door. This movie is full of surprise and suspense never failing to cause at least a couple of screams. The plot of this movie is good it's easy to follow, and the organization is great. It doesn't come right out and explain what's going on from the beginning it keeps you guessing and trying to figure out what will happen next. But then next thing you know your assumption is proven wrong. This movie is sure to get a few jumps, a few screams and even a few laughs. The laughing mainly at the young girls who come in to the movie and scream at the top of their lungs thinking they are the ones who are about to get murdered. It's quite funny.

Anyways this movie was definitely worth my $8 and probably yours to if your into scary non gory movies that will make you jump. It's not a must see in my opinion but it is definitely something to consider seeing. Just maybe not before prom if you've had any instances similar to Donna's in your life.

Movie information was taken from http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809846738/info. The opinions of this movie as always are my own and not meant to harm or hurt anyone they are strictly my own opinions of a popular movie. As always suggestions are always appreciated of movies to rate and review.

Another great review from yours truely.

21

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner- 21 or Bust. It's all about the beloved game of blackjack. How to beat the system. Is it possible? In this movie the main character Ben Campbell sets out along with a few others from MIT in an exciting adventure to make a lot of money in a small amount of time using simple math. Ben however, is not in it just to get rich, he plans on using the money he makes to pay for Harvard Medical School which costs roughly $300,000. Counting cards, it's not illegal but it can get you into trouble as this group of geniuses, led by math professor Micky Rosa, soon find out. This movie is a thriller with lots of action and mystery. The characters seem to never fail in the creativity and disguises used throughout the movie.

Sounds neat right, well as some may not know this movie- 21 was originally a book. I myself have not read this book yet but would like to as I've heard only great reviews about it. Finding out after seeing the movie that it was not only a book but was based on a true story, all I can think is wow, these people must be geniuses. But really it's just simple math though I could never do half of the things they do.

This movie is full of adventure and lots of thrills adding to the overall excitement. The plot was especially good never ceasing to add to the mystery of the entire movie. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire movie thinking and wondering what would happen next only to be proven wrong in the next scene.

Overall I thought this movie was awesome. Some may disagree with me which will always happen but to me this movie was totally worth the $8 to see in theaters. It had good acting, a good plot, and most of all kept you interest throughout the entire movie. It's a great movie and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a new movie to check out. Though be warned it can be kind of confusing to follow when they explain how to count cards, but really it's just simple math, plus one, minus one. It's not too hard to follow just try and understand the overall plot and hopefully you'll find it as enjoyable as I did

As always, these are just my own opinions. Any comments are welcome as are any new ideas for movies to see. I'm up for anything-get creative people! All information on this blog was taken from

Mad Money

As always another movie post by yours truly. This week though instead of being a newly released into theaters movie, I'm going to review and critique Mad Money, which should be coming out on DVD fairly soon. The cast of this movie includes Diane Keaton, Katie Holmes, and Queen Latifah. Surely anything with these three talented actresses will be a major hit. The movie, however, is lacking in a few areas, including the plot. The plot is fairly simple to understand the 3 ladies plan a scheme to rob the federal reserve bank, and if that isn't bad enough they plan on robbing it multiple times. Seems fairly simple, but they run into a few problems as should be expected with any high security bank robbery. The overall plot of the story is lacking in a few ways, leaving much to be desired. The movie is supposed to be a comedy and an entertaining movie, but there were very few parts that caused even the smallest amount of laughter out of the audience. The acting, though, was pretty decent, the staring ladies played their roles great getting into the characters really well. This movie though entertaining and fun appears to have a moral behind it. Showing just how important friendship is and how friends can get through just about anything.

The ending is sure to catch some people's attention, though,I am trying hard not to share or ruin the ending. It's hard as I feel the need to critique the ending and explain why it should have ended differently, but I guess I'll leave it up to you, the readers and movie go-ers, to form your own opinions and ideas on the ending.

Is the movie worth the $8 to see, probably not, but there's no need to worry about that anymore as it's almost out of theaters by now, and will soon be out on DVD. My advice to you would be to wait for it to come out on DVD then watch the movie in the privacy and comfort of you own home, it's a lot cheaper, and it's not as if seeing it in theaters is that much better, especially since this isn't one of the better movies out right now. That is my opinion at least. Remember, this is strictly my opinion and is not used as a way to promote or demote any movies but just to critique and reflect movies and to state my own opinion on the current movies.

If you have any comments about this movie or any other movies that you would like me to critique feel free to comment on this blog. Thanks for looking at this blog and keep on the lookout for the next review

Step Up 2- The Streets

Again as always, another movie review on a newly speculated movie. I had seen the original Step Up when it first came out and fell in love with the plot line and the amazing dance moves. I could only hope that some day I could dance as well as the characters did. The plot of the sequal, Step Up 2, is seemingly simmilar, yet carries a few twists as well. The characters are, for the most part, new with the exception of the returning Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) as a minor character in the movie. In the movie Step Up 2 Andie (Briana Evigan) is part of the well known 410 crew and after running into a few sticky situations, she is forced to attend the Maryland School of Arts. This, however, is not her usual crowd of rough street dancing people but instead it is classrooms filled of tutu bearing girls and balet dancing boys. Could prove to be an interesting clash of dance technique huh? Not only is this movie good for a couple of laughs from the sharp witted Andie, but the viewers are given a new outlook on the ways of the streets. Step Up has yet to fail in bringing in attractive actors and actresses and bringing into the plot a romantic love story.

This movie shows people a way to overcome the differences of where they're from and move forward, advancing towards what they want most. This movie teaches a motivational lesson. Though, on the more critical less sappy side of things, the plot of the movie is just ok; not spectacular but not the worst by any means. Once you've heard the plot and what the movie is about you pretty much can guess what will happen. The acting is done by mediocre actors with no really well known cast members to make the movie stand out. Though I have to admit it was pretty good for having very few well known members.

Of course if your over the age of let's say 25 you may think this movie is just full of gang violence, awful dance moves, and just as bad hip hop music. Well you may be right but this movie with all the new hip dance moves and music appeals to most teenagers but adults may not like the style of movie at all. Compared to the original movie I'd say this one is about the same; simmilar plot and acting, but is overall pretty interesting to watch with the exception of it being fairly cliche. This movie is not necessarily a must see but I would reccommend it if you ever need something to do or just want to watch a fun intertaining movie. I'm not sure if it was worth the almost $8 to see in theaters, but it's not a bad movie to say the least.

Fool's Gold Review (No Spoilers)

The amazing actor and actress duo of Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson strike back once again in this romantic, supposedly hilarious, comedy. However, it should be noted that while some parts may give you a bit of a laugh or a chuckle, it's not the funniest movie out there. In fact, this movie doesn't have much going for it except for the well known actors and actresses. Matthew McConaughey plays the young naive treasurer seeker Ben Finnegan better known as Finn. Finn, seems to run into quite a few problems such as a failing marriage, the loss of his boat, and some trouble with other fellow treasure seekers. While the plot of this movie sounds like it would be interesting, a seemingly comedy version of National Treasure. This I assure is not nearly as interesting as it sounds. While it does include some humor and the plot itself seems interesting enough; the storyline of this movie lacks in a few places along with some of the dialogue throughout the movie.

The basis of the movie is all about finding the sunken treasure of an 18th century French ship. The many problems Finn runs into, lead him and his now ex wife Tess (Kate Hudson) into a bit of a sticky situation, as they both end up on the same boat and now begin a search for the sunken treasure they began searching for some many years back. Seems like it could make a fairly good comedy doesn't it. Husband and wife divorce yet are stuck on the same boat, could make for some potentially dangerous yet hilarious situations. It does make for some funny situations. It has a bit of humor, a decent plot, and great acting. However, it is lacking in some aspects. The plot has a lot going for it, though, there are lots of confusing lines in the movie and the fast moving plot can confuse movie watchers, such as myself. One part in particular, when Finn is attempting to explain the sunken treasure the explanation is so detailed and short it's nearly impossible to follow what he is saying at all yet alone actually comprehend what is going on.
Overall, this movie was okay and just okay, not stupendous, or plain awful, but it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen. But if you want a slap on the knee comedy or a brave action filled treasure hunt, this is not the movie to see. However, if you are into mediocre puns and confusing plot lines this is the movie to see. That's probably not what majority of Americans or others want to see though. So my advice to you, save your money; save it for a much better movie. However, if you are really stuck on the idea of watching this movie save it till it comes out on DVD, it's not worth the $8 or $9 ticket price to see it in theaters.
That's all for now movie lovers. Check back later for another movie review and critique by yours truly.
